1. Comme l’a dit l’ancien conseiller de Vaclav Havel, Tomáš Sedláček, ce qui se passe aujourd’hui en Ukraine est « une révolution majeure sur le continent européen ». Cela concerne tous les Européens. Pas seulement les Ukrainiens.

Among the numerous invisible elephants that haunt the seats of government of 27 of the 28 EU member-States is the particularly ghostly issue of the British question. How is it possible that a subject as important as the place and the role of the United Kingdom in the EU is being blatantly avoided? The situation, however, is very real. Twenty-seven States have become hostage to one man, David Cameron, who is himself the hostage of another – Nigel Farage, the leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).

Parmi les nombreux non-dits qui hantent les chancelleries de 27 des 28 Etats-membres de l’Union européenne, il y en est un particulièrement lourd de sens. La question britannique. Comment se peut-il qu’une question aussi importante que la place et le rôle du Royaume-Uni en Europe soit affrontée sans l’être ? Pourtant les faits sont là, énormes. 27 Etats sont devenus les otages d’un homme, David Cameron, lui-même otage d’un autre : Nigel Farage, le leader du Parti pour l’Indépendance du Royaume-Uni (UKIP).

As the protests in the Ukraine have been ongoing for nearly one month and the Ukrainian and Russian presidents have just signed an unconditional (according to the Russian president) 1 agreement on the granting of a Russian loan of $15 billion to the Ukraine, as well as a temporary contract to sell gas at a reduced price, it is a good time to draw a few lessons. The Ukraine is on the brink of an abyss. It is no longer time for discussing the fundamental importance of the Association Agreement both for the EU and for the Ukraine. The situation is extremely dangerous. There are increasing signs emanating from various quarters raising fears of violent clashes between the authorities and the protesters.
