The rails of war: An EU railway initiative for the defence of Ukraine

The Ukrainian authorities recently launched a call for proposals to improve the country’s defence capabilities. Here is one that we believe could help strengthen both the immediate and longer-term defence of the Ukraine. And, beyond that, it could help Ukraine’s integration into the European economic area.

The idea stems from the fact that the logistics of the Russian Federation’s army are organised around rail transport, as was the case for the Soviet army. The proposal is therefore to create “break points” along Ukraine’s borders with Russia and Belarus to help prevent the Russian army from using the Ukrainian rail network to transport men, equipment and munitions. 1 Lire la suite →

Ein Vorschlag gegen den deutsch-französischen Boykott des Beitritts der Ukraine zur Europäischen Union

Deutschland und Frankreich lehnen es weiterhin ab, der Ukraine den Status eines EU-Kandidatenlandes zu gewähren. Da diese Position durch keine ernsthaften politischen Argumente gestützt wird, sollten die EU-Mitgliedstaaten, die dafür sind, die Strategie des « leeren Stuhls » von Charles de Gaulle übernehmen und nicht an den Gipfeltreffen der Staats- und Regierungschefs teilnehmen.

Une proposition contre le boycott franco-allemand de l’adhésion de l’Ukraine à l’Union européenne

L’Allemagne et la France continuent de s’opposer à l’octroi du statut de pays candidat à l’UE à l’Ukraine. Puisque cette position n’est étayée par aucun argument politique sérieux, les États membres de l’UE qui y sont favorables devraient adopter la stratégie de la « chaise vide » de Charles de Gaulle et ne pas participer aux sommets des chefs d’État et de gouvernement.

Germania e Francia continuano ad opporsi alla concessione all’Ucraina dello status di paese candidato all’adesione all’Unione europea. Visto che questa posizione non è sostenuta da nessun argomento politico serio, i paesi membri dell’Unione favorevoli dovrebbero adottare la strategia di Charles de Gaulle, detta della “sedia vuota” e non partecipare ai vertici dei capi di stato e di governo.
